Good conditions and an excellant surface saw South Cave take the lead within the first ten minutes. Tom Hanson put the ball in the back of the net to mark his return to the team and his sixth of the season. It wasn't long afterwards that South Cave made it two nil. A good ball over the top of the defence by Pete Allison gave Tom Love the space and time to finish it off. This was goal number twenty for Tom, just short of halfway through the season. Howden hit back with an initial reflex save by Chris Hodgkinson from point blank range, though a Howden player was on hand to finish it off. The game was pretty balanced with both teams creating chances until South Cave extended their lead. A quality strike from Paul Rackham about thirty yards out was too much for the Howden keeper to handle. This was the first of the season for Paul Rackham though many are bound to follow. The second half saw Howden with some early pressure. Chris Hodgkinson made a couple of fine saves to keep the lead intact, including a deflected free kick whereby he had to shift his body back across the goal. Matt Simpson scored South Cave's fourth to pretty much kill all hopes Howden had of getting back into the game. A fifth and final goal for South Cave came from a skilful run by Matt Friend through the centre of midfield. He dribbled the ball past two players before striking the ball at goal. The Howden Keeper managed to get a hand onto it but Matt carried on his run to latch onto the loose ball and knock it in. The win meant South Cave carried on their unbeaten run since the opening day of the season, and also kept the pressue on Patrington Stanley at the top of the table. |
