| In the opening minutes of the game, Matt Simpson was taken down in the area. However he was denied a penalty after the referee waved play on. Tom Hanson made a run down the left wing and put in a telling cross that fell to Kieran Barmby. His arrival at the back post and subsequent shot hit the side netting. Gilberdyke won a corner, which was cleared at the front post. South Cave then hit on the counter-attack with Matt Simpson taking the ball down the right wing. His cross found Tom Love whose half volley unfortunately hit the crossbar. After Tom Hanson was held down just outside the box, Kieran Barmby stepped up to take the free kick. His curling shot was heading for the bottom corner but the goalkeeper managed to get a hand to it and pushed it out for a corner. After half an hour South Cave had the ball in the back of the net. An early cross to Tom Love on the back post saw his strong volley beat the keeper. Disappointingly, the goal was disallowed as the referee had already blown for offside. Half time came without any goals, although both teams had chances to take the lead. The deadlock was broken fifteen minutes into the second half. A break down the right wing saw a shot on goal parried by the keeper. Tom Hanson latched on to the loose ball and slotted it into the back of the net. The second half was as scrappy as the first, with the play constantly being interrupted for free kicks. South Cave kept their organisation at the back preventing Gilberdyke from anything other than long-range shots. The match finished with Hansons goal separating the two teams. Three points for South Cave maintained their pressure on Patrington Stanley United at the top of the league. |
