Chairman's Report : This was the first game of the season at our home ground and the pitch was in good condition but South Cave United were short of players with nineteen unavailable just one hour before the match. Even the Chairman received a text saying bring your boots! South Cave United were really scraping the barrel!

This had all the signs of a poor start with a scratch team put together at the last minute against a premier side but luckily some of the unavailable players turned up after being dragged away from shopping, relegating the aged Chairman to the bench.

South Cave United had a shaky start as ten minutes in, a weak back pass to the keeper tempted Sculcoates Amateurs Reserves to chase the ball and kick it from the keeper's hands to score the first goal. 0-1.

South Cave United fought back and for the next thirty minutes took control of the game with Carl Barnett holding up the ball. This created several attempts on goal. Notably, a free kick by Matt Friend headed by Courtney Tarbotton just over the bar; then another free kick from the corner headed by Kieran Barmby and saved by the keeper. Five minutes later South Cave United paid the price as Sculcoates Amateurs Reserves beat the offside trap with a poor decision resulting in a run though to bring the score to 0-2.

Just before half time South Cave United tried to hit back with a run by Paul Rackham into the penalty area, creating a goalmouth scramble which was eventually saved.

The second half started well again for South Cave United with a strong run by Courtney Tarbotton on the wing ending in a shot on goal, which was saved by the post! There were several free kicks awarded to South Cave United but after twenty minutes another free kick was lofted in by Matt Friend and scrambled home by Matt Simpson. 1-2

Thirty minutes into the second half South Cave United had several more chances falling to David Wilson and Matt Simpson who tried to lob the keeper, after a failed back pass, but it went over the bar.

It was a good performance after an uncertain start. South Cave United were not outplayed and should have made more of the attempts on goal. Final score South Cave United 1 Sculcoates Res 2.
